Old World Dance Club presents a weekend Folk Dance Camp with >>> Cristian Florescu & Sonia Dion <<< teaching dances from Romania Friday–Sunday, May 2-4, 2008, at Camp High/Scope, Michigan Cristian Florescu was born in Bucarest, Romania. He has studied dance with specialists such as Theodor Vasilescu. Cristian was principal dancer with the National Ensemble Cununa Carpatilor with whom he toured internationally. He has been recognized by the Romanian government as a solo dancer and choreographer, and has worked with a number of folk ensembles in Romania and Moldova. In 1993, he joined Les Sortilèges, a professional folk dance company based in Montreal with whom he was actively involved until 2003 as a dancer, teacher, rehearsal director and choreographer. Sonia Dion was born in Quebec and has been a professional dancer for over 20 years. She was lead dancer and choreogreapher for Les Sortilèges Dance Company, Canada's oldest folk dance ensemble with whom she developed several new productions. Sonia has toured worldwide and has been exposed to a wide range of dance techniques. In recent years, Cristian and Sonia have been sharing their love of Romanian folk traditions with recreational folk dance groups in all parts of Canada and the United States, Taiwan, and Japan, and have choreographed suites for performing groups including the world-renowned BYU Folk Dance Ensemble. --- The High/Scope Conference Center is situated on 450 acres of beautiful rolling terrain in rural, Southeast Michigan. The Conference Center is a 30 minute drive from Ann Arbor, less than an hour from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) and one hour north of Toledo. The facility features two country estates with mansions designed in the mid-1920s. Dances and workshops are held in the renovated recreation barn. The houses and barn are within a short walk of each other. *** Dance Program: Friday evening Dance party starts at 8:00 PM and includes a short workshop Saturday day Morning and afternoon workshops Saturday evening Dance party and review Sunday morning Workshop and review.
